Rhodes Hall Wedding with Garden Roses
One of my favorite things about being a florist in Atlanta is the camaraderie I have with other florists. You would think we would have a competitive nature towards each other, but really I find my colleagues very supportive of me, and I of them. This is a wonderful thing because we have each other to call on for help if needed.
Flower Bar collaborates mostly with two specific floral designers, Andy Rhodes of Organic Art and Cathy Brim of Bloom Floral Design. Below are a few photos of a wedding I did for Cathy. She consulted with the bride on design and ordered the flowers. I put them together. I love her idea of the moss lined glass containers we used for the 36" tables!

And the final product. These sweet pave styled centerpieces included a variety of pale pink rose, pink garden
rose, white and green mini cymbidium, kermit poms, hypericum berry and hot pink spray rose.

Four Season's Bridal Shower
This weekend we had the pleasure of creating table centerpieces for Taryn's wedding shower at Park 75 Restaurant in the Four Seasons Hotel. Her pretty arrangements included yellow roses, queen anne's lace, purple lisianthus and snowberry. The larger arrangement was for an oval table seating 8 and the smaller ones were for four- top tables.

Amanda and Andrew Wedding
Look at our gorgeous bride Amanda! This is one of the prettiest pictures we've seen. Amanda had a beautiful wedding ceremony at the Carter Center. Her bridesmaids wore teal blue and carried flowers in shades of pink.
Amanda was a joy to work with...we really loved creating a look just for her. Her kind words are worth posting as well!
"Amber, I want to say thank you for the wedding flowers - they were beautiful! (More than I even expected, for that matter!) I would be more than willing to serve as a reference or write a formal review if you ever need one!"
This gorgeous photo is courtesy of Slava Slavik Photography.

Indian Wedding Reception at Cafe Bombay
Thanks to Cathy at Bloom Floral Design, we had the pleasure of doing flowers for Sharda and Vic's wedding reception at Cafe Bombay. The setting is so colorful, they only needed a few simple bud vases along the tables to add a fresh touch.
Marigolds, calendula, dahlia, standard white mums, mint and safflower were the selected flowers....all varieties that should last throughout the week. A benefit of using a collection of small bud vases instead of larger centerpieces, is that more of your guests get to take home something pretty from your special day!
Here are a few photos from their event. Imagine the delicious aromas of Cafe Bombay's Indian food in the air....makes me want to host my own event there soon!

Glorious Indoor Gardens for Urban Living
Are you a garden lover, but live in an apartment, loft or condo, with no yard? In Atlanta (as with many other cities) the popularity of Intown Loft and Condo living has been on the rise over the last decade. One of the things we sacrifice with Intown living is outdoor space—But you don’t need to sacrifice having the beauty of the outdoors brought in to your home! This book is a great resource for creating and maintaining your indoor garden.
Plants and flowers not only affect our emotional well being, they also promote physical well being by removing toxins and poisons from our environment. Glorious Indoor Gardens not only provides rich textual content about creating your own garden sanctuaries, it’s also loaded with tons of beautiful photos!
A great book to pick up for yourself—or give as a gift!
If you live in the Metro-Atlanta area, call Flower Bar @ 404-641-0590 for help with getting your indoor garden started!

Come On Spring! Hello Tulips!
It’s Tulips season! Actually, to be honest, tulips are available year round from your professional florist-- but Tulips are definitely a sign of Spring! Tulips offer one of the widest arrays of vibrant colors and varieties. So tis the season! Order your honey a fresh bouquet of tulips, or stop by your local florist or market to pick up a bunch for yourself. They will be sure to brighten your week!
We’ve listed some interesting tips about Tulips below:
- Did you know that tulips are one of the few flowers that continue to grow, up to an inch or more, after they are cut and put into an arrangement? If you are preparing floral centerpieces for a specific event, make sure to cut your tulips about an inch or so shorter than you would want them to be at the event.
- Did you know that tulips’ blooms will follow the light? While you should not place your tulips in direct sunlight, they will tend to follow light in the room. This is part of the beauty and movement of the flower.
- Are the stems of your tulips weak or rubbery when you get them home? Tulips take a lot of water. A tip to proper hydration is to gently wrap your tulips in a couple of pieces of newspaper. Hold the stems under water and cut (this prevents air from stopping up the flow of water. Transfer wrapped tulips in water and preservative and let stand for 1-2 hours. Then remove paper and re-cut stems. Your tulips should be hearty and happy for 7-10 days! Don’t forget to keep your eye on the water levels, and continue to cut stems as necessary.

We recommend this book! Here's a powerful tool for working with a wedding budget. Alan and Denise Fields offer great information about everything to think about when budgeting for a wedding.
Where most wedding planning books coach on etiquette and design style, this handbook is the best tool for navigating through a great event on a realistic budget. It's full of money saving tips, and things to watch out for when working with wedding vendors.

Wedding Flower Tips
The wedding rush is upon us again. We're meeting with new brides and planning our our 2010 events. Some brides we meet already have very detailed ideas about their flowers, whereas others haven't yet picked out their colors.
We enjoy planning wedding decor with every bride, at every stage...but it occurred to me that it might be a useful tool to post a few tips to think about when meeting with a florist for your wedding.
Color:
Most colors can be found year round-- if you really have to have them-- but it will be better on the budget if you stick to what's in season. White is always available and always makes for a beautiful wedding, but if you want to add color, here are some suggestions for each season.
Seasonal Colors:
Spring: light pinks, purples, yellows. blues
Summer: dark pinks, dark purples, reds, peaches
Fall: oranges, greens, peaches, purples
Winter: reds, greens, yellows, browns
Roses vs. No Roses:
For Flower Bar, roses are one of the most economical ways to achieve a soft and petally look, if you like them. We've done plenty of weddings where there were no roses included, but still most brides want (or don't mind) roses within the mix. An all-rose bridal bouquet would cost probably half of what it would using most other flowers. The key is to use a good florist who will condition the rose over several days so that it is at a perfect full bloom. Rose buds are not as petally and romantic. One other tip about roses, is to use a color "pallet." Combine dark and light oranges with peaches, or a combination of three of four shades of pink!
Table Centerpieces:
One of the most important items on your list that will "make or break" your flower budget, will be your table centerpieces. Most Flower Bar table centerpieces range between $45-$85 per table for the "low" arrangements, and $85-$125+ for the "tall centerpieces." There are plenty of ways to substitute different containers or different flowers to get your look on a budget, just ask your florist for suggestions. Flower Bar also rents vases, and containers to lower your cost, but consider whether or not you want your guests to take home your arrangements.
Ceremony Arrangements:
Most couples have two or more large ceremony arrangements for the exchanging of vows. Re-purpose those pieces as buffet centerpieces, or entryway arrangements, or DJ decor at the reception. Flower Bar rents urns and columns, or candelabras for your ceremony flowers. We'll move them to your reception if it is in a different location than the ceremony.
Hopefully these couple of tips are useful to you. Stay tuned for more flower planning tips.....we have lot of them!
